Timber Funds and ETFs

PCL - Plum Creek Timber Company, Inc. (REIT). Owns and manages timberlands in the United States. Its products include lumber products, plywood, medium density fiberboard, and related by-products, such as wood chips.

RYN - Rayonier Inc. (REIT). engages in the sale and development of real estate and timberland management, as well as in the production and sale of cellulose fibers in the United States, New Zealand, and Australia. The company operates in four segments: Timber, Real Estate, Performance Fibers, and Wood Products.

POPE - Pope Resources, LP. Pope Resources, A Delaware Limited Partnership, through its subsidiaries, engages primarily in managing timber resources.

CUT - Claymore Global Timber (ETF). The Fund seeks investment result before fees and expenses that correspond generally to the performance of an equity index called the Beacon Global Timber Index. 0.65% expense ratio.

WOOD - iShares S&P Global Timber & Forestry Index Fund (ETF). The Fund seeks to provide investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance of the S&P Global Timber & Forestry Index. 0.48% expense ratio.

WY - Weyerhaeuser (REIT). Developer of forest products.

Timber Indexes

Beacon Global Timber Index - is comprised of global stocks traded on developed market exchanges that own and/or manage forests and harvest trees for lumber, pulp and other wood-based products.

The Dow Jones World Forestry & Paper Index is a float-adjusted capitalization-weighted index that provides a broad measure of the world forestry and paper markets. The index consists of owners and operators of timber tracts, forest tree nurseries and sawmills excluding providers of finished wood products such as wooden beams, which are classified under Building Materials & Fixtures. Additionally, the index includes producers, converters, merchants and distributors of all grades of paper excluding makers of printed forms, which are classified under Business Support Services, and manufacturers of paper items such as cups and napkins, which are classified under Nondurable Household Products.

S&P Global Timber & Forestry Index - comprised of approximately 25 of the largest publicly traded companies engaged in the ownership, management or upstream supply chain of forests and timberlands. Theses include forest products companies, timber real estate investment trusts, paper product companies, paper packaging companies and agricultural product companies.
